Interactive Demo — Error Detection

Parity Bit Calculator

Toggle bits to build a byte, and watch a parity bit get added for basic error detection. Flip a random bit during "transmission" to see how the receiver catches the error — just by checking a single extra bit.

Key Concepts
➕
Extra Bit
A parity bit is one additional bit added to a group of data bits so the total count of 1s is always even (or always odd).
🛰️
Detects Single-Bit Errors
If exactly one bit flips in transit, the parity no longer matches — the receiver knows something changed, even without knowing which bit.
⚠️
Limitation
Parity can't catch every error — if two bits flip at once, the count can accidentally match again and the corruption slips through undetected.
